An over the top comedy that ends up being more crude and less funny.
That's My Boy is about a junior high student named Donny Berger (Adam Sandler) who fathered a child named Han Solo (Andy Samberg) with his teacher, who went to jail, and raised him until Han Solo's 18th birthday. During those 18 years Donny became a celebrity in the tabloids, but now he owes taxes and faces possible jail time. Donny seeks out Han Solo, whose changed his name to Todd Peterson, after he finds out that Todd is well-off and soon to be married. Donny shows up and crashes the party and the movie. We get to see Sandler act like a drunken 13 year old (like that's never happened), but believe me it's more annoying than ever this time around. Unlike Sandler, who voice in this film makes me want to rip my ears off, Sandberg isn't annoying, but just dull as can be. He doesn't bring the humor that we've seen of him before. For me, the only thing halfway decent about this film is the supporting cast. Leighton Meester, who plays Todd's stuck-up fiance, turns in a decent performance. But the standout roles come from James Caan, Will Forte, Milo Ventimiglia, and Vanilla Ice (YES VANILLA ICE!). There are only a few good laughs in this film and Vanilla Ice is responsible for most of them. Overall, this movie is a tough one to watch due to the almost 2 hour running time, jokes that are crude and not funny, and Adam Sandler.
...AND SIMPLY PUT SKIP IT UNLESS YOU HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN A FAN OF SANDLER'S WORK OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS. D+
