Dredd 3D MOVIE REVIEW
A fun B-rated action flick that accomplishes everything it set out to and more.
Dredd is a bloody good action flick with a simple plot that still manages to knock it out of the park. It is a remake of the not so great 1995 Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, but this time around Karl Urban is our hero. The film takes place in a city set in the future where Judges have the authority to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Today, Dredd is told to go out on duty with a trainee, who has some kind of psychic abilities, to show her the ropes. They respond to call about a triple homicide in a neighborhood considered "the slums", where Judges rarely go. In this futuristic city, the neighborhoods are now their own 200 storey vertical buildings. As the Judges are investigating the neighborhood goes on lockdown to keep these Judges and their witness inside. Now they must survive while they are being hunted down by the drug lord who runs the building, played by Lena Headey, and her army. This isn't a big budget movie, but still accomplishes more than many of the of action flicks of this year. Packed with tons of blood and violence, Dredd is just a fun movie done well. Karl Urban is a good portrayal of Dredd, while Lena Headey makes for a good villain. The 3D is used well especially for the SLO-MO scenes, but isn't a necessity to enjoy this movie. This film felt like of a mix between this years The Raid: Redemption and Expendables 2.
